I, Creator

The world was surely being destroyed bit by bit. There was water everywhere which seemed ready to gulp down every bit of land visible . Everyone was frightened and running helter skelter to protect themselves. I picked my Pepsi can and began sipping it in awe of the amazing graphics of the movie 2012 as I lay on the sofa. Hollywood definitely has a way to make blockbuster destruction movies I thought to myself. The government heads in the movie were building some kind of ships to save the chosen few and the elite were using their money to book seats in the ship just like in a medical college. I was engrossed in the movie when all of a sudden I was in their midst! It was as if a magical force had transported me from my living room to ground zero. How the hell did I reach here? I thought to myself!

Everything went quiet! I was suddenly in the midst of it all with those chosen few! Nobody else, just us , a few thousand. Everything seemed to have quietened down now. The waters had calmed. Suddenly breaking the silence was a voice from nowhere which somehow was directed towards me.“The world is yours now. Mould it and shape it exactly as you want it to be. Don’t make the same mistakes that I made last time” the booming voice commanded me.

Wow! What an opportunity!!! I thought to myself. Of everyone present there, I was the CHOSEN ONE! I was given this mouth watering task and I just couldn’t contain my excitement. I looked at all of them with a certain arrogance. I had to now remake the world one step at a time! The 1st thing I did with the power bestowed on me was to suck out all hints of polluted air from the earth and fill it with oxygen. After all what’s the world without the air to breathe in. We pride ourselves in the advances that we’ve made but sadly have managed to pollute the air. Satisfied with my work and feeling refreshed breathing clean air for the 1st time in 30 years my mind was now full of ideas.

I looked around at the vast expanse of the ocean which had now calmed down from the raging tsunami that it was only sometime ago. I remembered the water shortage that we always had in the summer. I decided that the water in the oceans and rivers would never dry up because this time I wouldn’t make the mistake of making the rains dependent on the trees and weather. I know that if I did, we humans would somehow manage to screw it up. It would rain for 3 months abundantly, followed by summer for 3 months, winter for another 3 and rains again to end the year for 3 months. I smiled. I’m a genius I thought.

I then looked at all the people who were in front of me, the so called elite ones. Stripped of their wealth and fancy houses and cars, they now looked just as common as everyone. I smiled at them and made them all of the same color. No more are can anyone discriminate a fellow human being based on his color.

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…

From nowhere I heard these familiar words in that melodious tune. It was almost as if it was coming from my subconscious mind. I ignored it as I had more important tasks at hand. Next I looked at the people around me again and spoke to them in a God like loud deep voice “No more will a nation fight against another. We want to show power? We will make sport the ultimate factor in deciding how strong a nation is. Not by its army nor by the weapons it possess. Just sport. Not only will it unite a nation, it’ll also build a healthy and friendly rivalry!

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…

Those familiar words again! It was as if someone was whispering in my ears now. Why couldn’t I remember the name of that song and where was it coming from? I pushed it away again. I made another proclamation “We will have to build educational institutions. These schools and colleges will be free for all. You will not be admitted to a particular college because of the money that you have nor based on your entrance test result. Anyone is free to enter a particular institution. How good you come out of it is totally up to you.” I was proud!

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…

No more will we have religions. We would all worship one God. Why do we need to justify our faith by worshipping a particular God with a particular background story? Why do we need idols to worship someone whom we cant see? We just all pray together!

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

Suddenly I woke up. The TV was on! The movie was long over. It was now playing John Lennon’s famous “IMAGINE” song! So that’s where I was hearing the lyrics from! I had dozed off during the movie. AH! Alas it was all a dream. I was disappointed. I looked out of the window, saw a piece of land with trees being excavated to make room for a new house to be built. That’s when I realized that God had in fact set out to make the perfect world just like the one that I was creating in my dream.  It was just that we humans were destroying what he had once so lovingly created. Yes I am a DREAMER and I know that I am not the only one!
