The story of my blog – A SURGEONS SOJOURN

“If a story is in you, it has to come out” – William Faulkner Reading and writing is a passion for many. Somehow both go hand in hand. Like William Faulkner said in the quote above, all writers want their stories to be heard or in this case read. But not everyone gets the opportunity to GET PUBLISHED as they say. That is where the world of BLOGGING comes in. Unlike your “Dear Diary” where you jot down your thoughts (which are often personal) and then keep them to yourself, blogging gives you the power to tell the world exactly…

Independence Day Message

INDEPENDENCE DAY means different things to different people. The truth is that these days it means everything other than what it actually is! While for some it may mean a holiday to sleep & laze around the entire day, for others it means a movie day where in they get to catch up on movies that they missed out during the month. These days Independence Day has got a new meaning with various shopping sites giving discounts to bring in customers. Some attend the flag hoisting ceremonies at their schools, work places while others make it a tradition to watch…

My Money Book- Exide Life

“Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them” – Lemony Snicket This quote must be somewhat of a joke in this age of smartphones, iPads & Kindles. A book doesn’t arouse curiosity as much as a smartphone app probably these days. Google Keep, Evernote, Colornote etc, the Google Playstore or the Apple App Store are filled with APPS to make the daily TO DO list easy. Everything seems to be at the fingertips these days . In such a world EXIDE LIFE has come up with a MONEY BOOK. I must admit that when I first read…

The WashBucket Challenge

My favorite way of getting out of doing chores is by acting like I’m asleep. But it never works -Author Unknown Most men would agree with the above statement on both counts. If there is one thing that men shy away from, its definitely got to be the household chores. Men are ready to work long hours in the office, spend hours sweating it out at the work site or even stand hours together at the operating table, but when it comes to even the simplest of household chores like washing the dishes or for that matter even taking the…

The Stairway To The Room

Well……. I clicked this picture for no apparent reason but when I saw  it for the first time what came to my mind were two very famous songs –‘Stairway to Heaven’ & ‘The Room At The Top Of The Stairs’. One is an all time favorite & the other is MY favorite. The stairs in the picture lead to my room. At the end of these stairs is neither heaven nor the room where all the “stuff” that happens in the song so its actually as useless as the picture. And if you want to get philosophical about it then…

A Recipe for Disaster

This is an incident which happened about 7 years ago but it is one which we still talk about and have a laugh everytime we get together! It was somewhere in november when I was still busy with exams & all of a sudden I got a call from my buddy Levin & he was like “dude come over to my place for lunch tomorrow”. I was excited “Whats the occasion?” I asked. “Nothing special, I am cooking” was his answer. For a second I didn’t know what to say. “You there??” he asked. I said “yeah yeah, U cooking????”….

Dry baby, happy baby….happy mommy!

Only a mother can truly tell how important it is for a baby to be dry and tummy full! Here’s how much a dry baby can make a difference in your lives. The following post is in the words of Dr Nishita Fernandes, my wife. I woke up at 7am, stretched my arms and legs lethargic as ever, had a quick look at my awfully huge tummy and finally managed to wiggle out of bed. Somehow I lazily dragged myself to the balcony to soak in some early morning sun. They say it’s good for health. Being 9 months pregnant accompanied…

World Cup -Then and Now!

Stuart Binny walked out to the middle. He felt insignificant at the massive Melbourne Cricket Ground or the MCG, truly an historic venue. Yet, there he was, an important member of the team, one of the chosen 15 out of a billion to represent India at the ICC cricket world cup 2015. It was an important match and he had finally gotten a chance to show his skills for his country at the biggest stage of them all. The stadium was packed and noisy. Not for one minute could he believe that he was playing in Australia, it actually felt…

All in the Mind!

I wanted to write a post about positive thoughts. That’s when my wife told me about this wonderful experience of hers which really touched me and brought out a lot of positivity. So here goes. The entire post is in her own words I stood beside the water fountain facing the entrance to the huge multi speciality hospital that I was going to be a part of for the next three years. It was my first day as a post graduate student in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology, my subject of interest that I had gladly chosen myself. Yes,…

I, Creator

The world was surely being destroyed bit by bit. There was water everywhere which seemed ready to gulp down every bit of land visible . Everyone was frightened and running helter skelter to protect themselves. I picked my Pepsi can and began sipping it in awe of the amazing graphics of the movie 2012 as I lay on the sofa. Hollywood definitely has a way to make blockbuster destruction movies I thought to myself. The government heads in the movie were building some kind of ships to save the chosen few and the elite were using their money to book…

Mother Of Mine!

She broke the bread into two fragments, and gave them to her children, who ate with eagerness. “She hath saved none for herself” said the sergeant “Because she is not hungry” said the soldier “No” said the sergeant “Because she is a mother” “Don’t worry you will win for sure, I will pray for you” she told me. I was very nervous and felt like I would throw up anytime. I was in class 10 back then and was contesting the elections for the SPL (School Pupil Leader). At that time it was like contesting for the PM elections. Being…
